What is a drum circle?
Each player practices individual freedom but respects and contributes to the goals of the community. Drum Circle participants express themselves collectively by using a chorus of tuned drums, percussion toys, vocals, and movement to create in-the-moment musical songs—while having a great time.
Instead of a teacher, there is a facilitator. Ed has years of musical experience and facilitation training. The group will play improvised rhythms around the heartbeat, the rhythm of their own names, as well as simple orchestrated ethnic rhythms from around the world. And we play rhythm games that challenge and amuse the group. It can make for rich discussion around issues affecting the community or just be for the fun of jammin' together. Making music together is a great experience. You don't have to be a professional with years of training to do that. Everyone can add a part, whether simple or complex. It all goes together for a wonderful experience. | |||
