What You Need to Know Before Ziplining

There’s a lot of excitement around ziplining, and understandably so. This thrilling adventure will quite literally sweep you off your feet and take you to new heights. You’ll be able to face your fears, make lasting memories, and see the world from a new perspective! Before you jump right in, it’s important to prepare yourself for all of the things that this adventure entails. Keep reading for our top tips before ziplining and find out how you can show up fully prepared.

Zipline Safety

Like with all thrill-seeking activities, there must be a certain level of safety to ensure that everyone involved has a fun time without injury. First and foremost, it’s important to note that your zip will be heavily monitored by experts and guides, who will brief you on safety guidelines and ensure that all of your equipment is properly worn and working.

It’s also vital that, when picking where you’ll be ziplining, you choose a trusted operator staffed by trained professionals. Many “backyard” ziplining operators could pose a risk to your safety by failing to meet the standards of the Association for Challenge Course Technology and The Professional Ropes Course Association. Be sure to do your research on the zipline operator so that you are surrounded by professionals that have your safety in mind.

What to Wear: Tips Before Ziplining

You may be wondering what the best outfit choice is for an adventure like ziplining. Your clothing plays a big role in your experience and specifically in your safety. When deciding what to wear for the big day, consider these tips:

  • Wear close-toed shoes. This is often a requirement for zipline tours. Close-toed shoes will make for a more comfortable experience while you walk or hike to the ziplining course. They will stay on your feet during your ride and make the landing a lot smoother.
  • Dress for the weather. If you’re ziplining during the day, you may want to consider wearing a short-sleeved shirt to stay cool or a light long-sleeved shirt to protect your skin from the sun. At night, you could benefit from wearing a long-sleeved shirt to ensure that you stay comfortable at lower temperatures.
  • Avoid loose-fitting clothing. Since you will have a good amount of gear on you throughout your experience, it is best to avoid loose-fitting clothing that could get in the way or get caught on the harnesses.
  • Opt for longer bottoms. Another way to ensure equipment safety and comfort are to wear long bottoms. Wearing short shorts could interfere with how the harness fits on your body and could lead to discomfort throughout your ziplining journey.

Other Tips to Consider

Aside from clothing, there are other items you could prepare that will help make your ziplining adventure more enjoyable. Consider bringing sunscreen, bug spray, and a light jacket. These items will help protect you from the elements and can be stored in our on-site lockers. We also recommend bringing along a picture-taking device that is easily accessible, durable, and can be attached to your person in some manner. This will ensure that you get quality footage while also protecting your gadgets.
